It is my profound pleasure and honour to be present at this historic occasion of official Presentation of Instrument of Appointment and Staff of Office to His Royal Majesty Oba Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye III as the Olowo of Owo kingdom.
It is on record that the ancient stool of Olowo of Owo became vacant on 19th May, 2019 as a result of the demise of His Royal Majesty, Oba Victor Folagbade Olateru-Olagbegi III from Olateru Olagbegi branch of the sole Elewuokun Ruling House in Owo. The same Elewuokun Ruling House presented eighteen (18) candidates, out of which the Senior Omo-Olowos elected Prince Ajibade Ogunoye on 12th July, 2019 as the Olowo-elect and the election was later unanimously ratified by the Olowo kingmakers on 26th July, 2019. The selection and appointment were subsequently confirmed and approved by the Ondo State Executive Council at its sitting of 15th August, 2019 after confirming that the process that culminated in the emergence of Prince Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye as the Olowo-elect was in conformity with due process.
Today’s event is very significant in the history of this ancient community as it marks a new dawn through the official installation of a new Oba who is widely accepted by the whole community and appointed within a short period of interregnum. It is gratifying to note that the process of appointing HRM Oba Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye III was devoid of rancour, skirmishes and litigation which in many cases characterised the selection of traditional rulers in many communities. In fact, the selection of HRM Oba Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye III had been noted and adjudged by everyone as the most peaceful and generally acceptable and unprecedented in the history of ancient town of Owo.
I, therefore, commend the efforts of the Ruling House most especially the co-contestants to Olowo stool for their co-operation and understanding in the selection process. I also commend as well as congratulate the Omo-Olowos and the kingmakers for their sincere and invaluable roles in the emergence of the monarch which lends credence to their commitment to good and noble cause of Owo.
It is, therefore, on this note that I want to congratulate the Kabiyesi, His Royal Majesty, Oba Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye, III the Olowo of Owo Kingdom on the ascension to the throne of your ancestors. I wish you many years of peaceful and successful reign over your people. I pray your reign shall usher in development and progress for Owo and its environs.
I also want to use this opportunity to assure and reassure the good people of this State that our administration will continue to maintain dignified neutrality in the process of selecting Obas irrespective of the town concerned as it is the right of each community to choose Oba for itself and this has accounted for the relative peace we are enjoying regarding the selection of Obas since the inception of our administration.
Kabiyesi, bearing in mind your acceptance by your people and the show of love by the entire Owo community since you were declared the new Olowo, Your Royal Majesty should always see your appointment as an act of God. Based on this, I want to advise you to always exercise caution and restraint in the use of the powers being conferred on you today through the formal presentation of your Instrument of Appointment and Staff of Office. Always remember that the aspiration for this enviable position was between you and seventeen (17) other members of the same family. Now that by providence you have been chosen to sit on the throne of Olowo, you should see yourself as the father of all and to all.
There is no winner or loser. You should endeavour to keep the unity and peace of your people as that demonstrates your strength as an Oba. I will like to call on the people of Owo community to ensure that the reign of Kabiyesi is made remarkably successful. The success of Oba Ajibade Gbadegesin depends largely on the degree of loyalty, unalloyed co-operation and unflinching support we give to our Oba.
I want to use this auspicious occasion to reiterate the priority placed on traditional institution most especially our revered traditional rulers and their welfare by our administration. I enjoin our royal fathers in the State not to relent in giving their supports and invaluable advice towards the progress of our dear State, most especially the security issue which has become a menace in the nation. This issue should not be left in the hands of Government alone, rather, collective efforts are needed to combat the problem and other criminal acts so as to totally eradicate them from our State.
I want to emphasise the fact that our administration is determined to ensure even distribution of social and economic benefits of good governance through the provision of infrastructural facilities and social amenities not only in urban cities but also in all communities in the State. Some of the facilities being provided are road rehabilitation and construction across the State, renovation of public schools, rehabilitation of damaged boreholes, and massive provision of hospital equipment and consumables.
Once again, distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen, I want to congratulate Kabiyesi, Oba Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye III the Olowo of Owo kingdom on this historic occasion. I wish you a long life, sound health, prosperity and peaceful reign over your people.
Thank you all and God bless.
